Stabilizes pH & Total alkalinity
with virtually no chemicals
Balancing a Pool Could Never be Easier
Introducing pH PURE – a CO2 injection system that never requires the use of muriatic acid to control the pH. This system “magically” balances your pool’s water 24-hours a day. At the same time, your total alkalinity will remain relatively steady, eliminating the regular use of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to raise it. This is one of the most remarkable products we’ve ever produced!
Balancing the pH and total alkalinity at the same time is certainly an ordeal. An improperly balanced pool will cause cloudy water, algae formation, eye and bather discomfort, not to mention damage to the pool itself.
Introducing pH PURE!
The pH PURE system consists of a control box and a CO2 tank that is installed next to your existing pool equipment. Trace amounts of safe and natural carbon dioxide are released into your pool’s water in time-controlled amounts throughout the day with our computerized control system. Taking care of your pool could never be easier! Adding CO2 to your water produces the same interaction that takes place when you add muriatic acid.
Pool Balancing Becomes a Breeze
- Compatible with all sanitizing systems including salt-chorine generators
- Balances the pH without using muriatic acid and constant monitoring
- Quick payback period – 1/5th the price to operate muriatic acid
- Totally safe for swimmers, your pool, and the environment
- Handles any size residential pool from 3,000 gallons to 50,000 gallons
- Easy installation in under an hour with no special tools required
Technology Used on Commercial Pools
CO2 injection has been used safely and economically on commercial pools for decades and is now available for residential pools.
The savings in money versus using chemicals like muriatic acid and sodium bicarbonate will quickly pay for the pH PURE unit in no time at all. The skyrocketing prices of these chemicals are unreasonable. You will be able to cut back on hauling, storing, and swimming in those hazardous chemicals.
What is Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)?
- Common and essential compound found in nature
- Released every time we exhale from breathing
- Required in the process of photosynthesis
- Used to give soft drinks their “fizz” from dispensers
- Keeps beer carbonated in kegerators
Eliminate Muriatic Acid for pH Control
When adding muriatic acid to the pool, you are creating the formation of carbon dioxide (CO2)?
This lowers the pH in a very unstable manner and is constantly going back up. Why deal with hazardous chemicals when there is a safer, less expensive and near maintenance-free alternative like pH PURE?
One-Fifth the Cost of using Muriatic Acid
The savings in muriatic acid and sodium bicarbonate to control the pH and total alkalinity will quickly payback your investment in pH PURE.
Purchasing the pH PURE System
When purchasing the pH PURE System, you will need to either rent or purchase one or more CO₂ tanks depending on the size of your pool and the length of the pool season. When ordering pH PURE, you will need to specify the desired regulator you will need – either a single, double, or triple tank regulator.
Acquiring and handling a CO₂ tank is very similar to that of a propane tank. They are readily available everywhere in the USA.
If you elect to purchase a tank, you can order them online or purchase them at many locations in the United States. These locations also refill the tanks.
CO₂ refills are also widely available in sporting good stores, welding supply stores, paintball stores and restaurant supply stores. A simple Google search of “CO₂ tanks near me” will tell you where you can go.
Airgas is a top supplier of CO₂ tanks in the United States with nearly 900 locations. They also supply many independent stores in their areas with low-cost residential delivery available.
Clearwater Pool Systems will gladly assist you on tank sizing and location of where to acquire the tanks by contacting as at 1-800-756-7946.
Determining your pool size
Rectangular Pools
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5
Circular or Oval shaped Pools
Length x Width x Average Depth x 5.9
Average depth can be obtained by taking the depth of the deep and shallow ends and then dividing by two.
Determining the Proper CO₂ Tanks to Obtain
CO2 tanks come in 3 sizes – 20 lb., 35 lb., and 50 lb.
As a rule of thumb, a pool will use approximately 1/4 of a pound of CO₂ per 10,000 gallons a day. The actual amount could vary based on a few factors, but as a rule of thumb, this is accurate.
We recommend you rent at least one 50-pound tank from a local supplier in your area and have it delivered. Renting a tank and having it delivered is inexpensive and makes it easy on you as the homeowner for a virtual hands-off approach. The CO₂ is usually under a $1 a pound when filled to these sizes with delivery and tank rentals very reasonable in cost – all at a fraction of using muriatic acid.
1 – 50-Pound Tank / Days Between Refilling
Pool Size
10,000 Gallons = 200 days
15,000 Gallons = 150 days
20,000 Gallons = 100 days
30,000 Gallons = 75 days
40,000 Gallons = 50 days
Among factors to consider……
How long do you want to go between refills? You can easily calculate how many days you can go between refills by using this form:
Pool Volume
Cylinder Size
Approximate Months
Would you rather own the tanks? If so, you should consider getting multiple 20 or 35-pound tanks with 3 the maximum allowed with our system. The weight can be a factor on the larger size tanks when filled if you want to fill them yourselves. If you do go with delivery, it doesn’t matter if own the tanks or rent them.
Adding up all the factors, we recommend you rent at least one 50-pound tank from a local supplier in your area and have it delivered. Renting a tank and having it delivered is inexpensive and makes it easy on you as the homeowner for a virtual hands-off approach. The CO₂ is usually under a $1 a pound when filled to these sizes with delivery and tank rentals at a very reasonable in cost – all at a fraction of using muriatic acid. If your pool is over 25,000 gallons, you should consider renting two 50-pound tanks.

pH PURE FAQ
- What exactly is pH PURE?
pH PURE is a new product by Clearwater Pool Systems and injects CO2 (carbon dioxide) into the pool water to balance the pH and keeps the total alkalinity relatively steady. You can eliminate expensive muriatic acid use to control the pH. The system automatically balances the pool 24/7 with virtually no chemicals. When you add CO2 to the water, you are doing the same thing when you add muriatic acid. Which would you rather use? - Has this technology been used before?
Yes. For decades, CO2 has and continues to be used on commercial pools and waterparks all over the world. It is very economical compared to using muriatic acid and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to control pH and total alkalinity. - Is carbon dioxide (CO2) safe to swim in?
By the time it reaches the actual water in the pool, the CO2 is totally dissolved and completely harmless to swimmers. We exhale CO2 every time we breathe. - Will I still have to balance my pool and use muriatic acid?
Once you get the unit set on the proper setting, the pH and total alkalinity in the pool should remain very steady. Keep the pH 7.2-7.6 for best results. You will never have to use muriatic acid to balance the pH, but if the total alkalinity goes over 160 ppm, you would have to use some to lower it. However, our system does not affect total alkalinity and by eliminating muriatic acid, the total alkalinity will not go down – thus eliminating the use of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). - How hard is it to install the unit?
Any Clearwater dealer, plumber or handyman would be able to install the system in under an hour. - Does a CO2 tank and CO2 come with the product?
No, you will have to get that locally as it would be cost prohibitive for us to ship the tank and illegal to ship CO2 itself without proper registration and restrictions in place. Getting a tank locally will almost be as easy as getting a propane tank filled up. They are available at welding shops, paintball, restaurant supply stores, and some sporting good stores. You can either purchase or rent the tanks. We strongly recommend you rent larger the large size tanks and have them delivered to you. There are several companies that offer this including Airgas which is nationwide. Welding shops can refill or exchange tanks and make the deliveries to you also. There is a chart on this site in the pH PURE section that can help you on determining the proper tank to use. - Will using this system save me money?
Depending on the market price of muriatic acid and sodium bicarbonate, using CO2 can be about 1/5th the cost vs. using muriatic acid. The cost of chemicals is astronomical. - How long is the warranty?
The pH PURE unit is covered for three years, except for the O-Rings, washers, electrical fuses and tubing which are subject to normal wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.
